Authenticity, Existence, Being - Themes in the Philosophy of Technology
We are living in the (often self-proclaimed) age of AI. Congruous with this age, we are being forced to grapple with questions ranging from authenticity (generative AI) to fairness (algorithmic sentencing) to being (the pursuit of artificial general intelligence). The field of philosophy has been grappling with these questions on a fundamental level for the past nearly one thousand years. In this workshop, we will investigate several "big tech questions" centered around themes from philosophy to be better equipped to engage critically with the modern world. Technological concepts will be treated with the required technical rigor while also being presented to allow non-technical mentees to engage.
